Orissa Church Condemns The Brutal Murder Of Swami Laxmananda
BALASORE, AUG. 26, 2008, 15.00 Hrs (CBCI News):The Catholic Community in Orissa was once again terribly shocked by the brutal murder of Swami Laxmanananda Saraswati and four of his close associates. A series of massacres of religious personnel in recent years had left State in anguish, fear and anxiety. In a sensational incident Swami Laxmanananda Saraswati and four of his associates have been shot dead attack at around 9 PM on 23rd August, at Jalaspotta Ashram, in Tumudi Bandh area in the tribal dominated district of Kandhamal in Southern Orissa on Saturday night. We, the Catholic community in Orissa deeply condemn the barbarous incident and deeply sympathize with the near and dear ones of the deceased.
Condemning the killing, Rt. Rev. Dr. Bishop Thomas Thiruthalil C.M, D.D the Chairman of OCBC (Orissa Catholic Bishops’ Conference) asked the people to maintain peace and harmony in the wake of the killing of Swami Laxmananda The church in Orissa condemns the brutal murder of Swami Laxmananda. The church believes the strong Legislature of our democratic Nation and that the law and order will take its course in right time.
There has been incidents of antisocial and communal disturbances in the State. The Church is shocked and deeply saddened by this barbarous killing which is the outcome of a growing climate of intolerance and violence against peace and harmony in the State. It is time that we the people of Orissa in spite of the differences of caste, creed and cultures work together for the peace, harmony, tolerance, and solidarity among us all.
